Skylen is a deeply reflective designer who naturally empathises with human stories, bringing insightful observations to design problems. Drawing on over a decade of experience in the arts for some of Australia’s leading cultural and educational institutions, Skylen believes that art is a powerful tool for visualising big ideas and igniting conversations. Skylen’s inquisitive nature encourages more questions than answers, fostering a space for analysis and innovation.
Skylen believes in the strength of user-centred and co-design principles to give voice to marginalised groups and create empowering new systems. Skylen is keen to further her interests in Placemaking, cooperative and sustainable housing systems and new democratic and energy distribution models. Skylen’s motivation as a ThinkPlace Designer is to facilitate the co-creation of fair and sustainable systems that support human diversity, health and freedom.
Skylen holds a Bachelor of Arts (Visual) from ANU and a Masters of Arts (Art in Public Space) from the RMIT University, where she developed strong research, analysis and grant writing skills. Skylen also has experience in mainstream and alternative Primary education (Montessori and Steiner methods) and community cultural development as well as the application of Permaculture Design principles.
